A UK resident affected by a terrorist incident in the UK includes anyone who was directly involved, saw what happened, or was injured. It also includes people whose close family or friends were affected.

This page explains the types of support available to you, including emotional and practical help, guidance on what may happen next, and where to go for further support.

Support available to you

The Support Hub for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism provides specialist, trauma‑informed support for anyone affected by terrorism. We’ll work with you to understand your needs and will develop a support plan to help you move forward.

You may be able to access:

  • emotional and psychological support to help you process what has happened, at your own pace
  • help understanding police investigations or legal processes, including what to expect
  • support for family members, including children and young people
  • specialist bereavement support if you have lost someone
  • guidance around financial support, compensation or practical arrangements
  • advice on managing media attention or protecting your privacy.

After a terrorist incident, support is often provided by a range of organisations working together. You might have contact with different services at different times.

This may include:

  • Support services such as Victim Support, which can provide emotional and practical support and help you understand your options.
  • NHS Healthcare services, including NHS support for both physical and mental health.
  • Police and Family Liaison Officers, who can help keep you informed about an investigation.
  • Government support, including information about financial assistance and official processes.

You may not need all these services, and the support you need may change over time.

Understanding the legal process

Through the Support Hub, caseworkers can help you understand what the legal system might involve after an incident. We can talk through what may happen and explain the steps in simple, clear terms at a pace that feels right for you.

We do not give legal advice or opinions, explain how the law applies to individual situations, or prepare legal documents. However, we can help by sharing clear information, explaining the options that may be available, and signposting you to specialist legal services if you want further support.

You can contact us at any time or make a self‑referral through this website. We’ll help you access support in a way that feels right for you.
