The Support Hub for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism provides direct support to international citizens or visitors, who have been affected by a terrorist incident in the UK. We can also provide you with direct support, helping you to navigate UK services, and can help connect you with your embassy or other services where needed.
The term “international citizens and visitors” includes visitors, tourists, international students, or people living in the UK temporarily or long-term.
This page explains the support you may be able to access while you are in the UK, including healthcare, emotional support, and help understanding UK services and processes.
Support available to you
You can access support via the Support Hub regardless of your nationality or residency status.
This may include:
- emotional and psychological support to help you cope with what has happened
- help understanding UK processes, including police investigations and legal steps
- support for family members, including those who may be overseas
- bereavement support if someone you know has died
- help accessing interpreters or translated information.
You might receive support from different organisations depending on your needs.
This may include:
- Support services such as Victim Support, which can provide emotional support and help you understand your options.
- NHS Healthcare services, including NHS support for both physical and mental health.
- Police and Family Liaison Officers, who can help keep you informed about an investigation.
- Your embassy or consulate, who may be able to offer additional support to that provided by the UK Government.
Understanding the legal process
The Support Hub for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism can support foreign nationals affected by an incident in the UK, as well as UK nationals affected by an incident overseas.
Where an incident has taken place abroad, the way support and legal processes work can be very different from country to country. In these situations, responsibility for overseas support may sit with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and local authorities in that country. We can provide support ourselves and can also help you connect with your embassy and other services where needed.
Our Support Hub caseworkers can provide information to help people understand what these processes may involve. This can include identifying translation needs, and signposting to appropriate organisations, including the FCDO or country specific services.
We do not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or guidance on how the law applies to individual circumstances. Our role is to help people understand what support may be available, explain processes in plain language, and help them navigate next steps where possible.
You can contact us at any time or make a self‑referral through this website. We’ll work with you to help you access support that feels right for you. This could include access to a interpreter if you’d like support in a different language.
